Sunday 5th September 2010 saw the fifth annual COTAG 4x4 Response multi-agency exercise held near Alford in Aberdeenshire. (Due to various pressures no exercise had been held in 2009.) The exercise was held at Whiteside Farm near Alford with the kind permission of the owner Willie Mackie.
The exercise this year was held jointly with the British Red Cross (BRC) , an organisation COTAG 4x4 Response has trained with before.
'Exercise Wild Rover' was based upon a main scenario of small numbers of walkers lost on hillside ground. Whilst locating hillwalkers is normally a task taken on by the Police and Mountain Rescue teams, there are scenarios where COTAG could be involved.
Every year COTAG provides support services for various groups engaged in running events in remote areas involving members of the public. Key to such events is the provision of checkpoints along the route to ensure participants navigate the route safely.
